No Candidates in Nola for Fat Tuesday...

The weather in Arizona is as good as it gets today and it will be in the 70s while the candidates converge on the state in anticipation of the debate Wednesday evening.

Newt is still in Oklahoma, having one of his biggest events tonight that is not open to the public, but it will be big. He will be speaking to the Oklahoma State Legislature. Oklahoma has been better to Newt in polls than other states.

Newt is interviewed on CBS This Morning
Tuesday February 21, 2012 - 6:00am CT / 7:00am ET

At 11 AM Mitt Romney will appear in Michigan before moving on to Arizona.
Eagle Manufacturing

Their website shows all the things they make. It also shows they are a provider of large government contracts.

We are a fully registered Defense Industry Supplier! Our CAGE code is 3C9M3."

Follow the money trail in any election process ... There is always a money trail when it comes to big business candidates vs grass roots, populist ones.

Just saying, government contracts is something I know a lot about and there is a lot of potential money down the line for them IF Mitt Romeny becomes the candidate and wins.

With regard to money, I'm beginning to worry that Romney's style of campaigning highlights America's problem economically. We import more than we export. Romney is putting out more and more money in an election race and losing more and more ground. Not sound financial advice to me, but who knows maybe that money will turn the tide but really only time will tell.

Either way, no candidate will be appearing in Louisiana where Mardi Gras is King today and no one there will be paying attention to who is or isn't on the campaign trail.

The weather in the high 60s, they may luck out as rain is in the forecast for tomorrow.

Enjoy ... you can watch online at www.nola.com

Santorum --> Georgia, Newt's Backyard

Rick Santorum will be speaking tonight in Georgia, a state that has been visited by all the candidates despite it being what should be a cake walk for Newt Gingrich.

Sunday, February 19:

6:30pm EST: Senator Santorum will participate in the God & Country Rally at First Redeemer Church in Cumming, GA.

Location:
First Redeemer Church
2100 Peachtree Parkway
Cumming, Georgia 30041

Note Newt has appeared all over Georgia the last few days, often times with Cain.

Should he show badly in Georgia and/or Santorum wins Michigan...not even counting a win for Santorum in Georgia I'd suggest everyone go back to the ranch and refigure out what they are doing wrong, because supposedly the candidate that is so "not electable" is doing better than the ones who were considered "electable" ....

Maybe that's what Romney is doing today, because he is not appearing anywhere. And, as the once front runner who is losing traction ...one would think he'd be out on the road.

Even Ron Paul is out there today in North Dakota, where it is much colder than Georgia where Santorum is taking on Newt Gingrich in his home state.

Mike Huckabee said a while back that the reason he doesn't run for President is he lacks the fire in the belly. He said it's something you need to do 24/7. I'm beginning to wonder if Mitt Romney really wants this or he wants to avenge his father's loss when his father ran for President. It must have been a hard legacy to live up to and he must remember it strongly, much like Al Gore remembered his father's loss.

Once in a while in life we have to rethink what we are doing and why we are doing it.

Either way, the elusive Super Tuesday is getting closer and closer...

Mason Ohio, Boise Idaho and Atlanta Georgia.

In today's ongoing tug of war for the top dog in the Republican Primaries the people of Ohio will be wondering today if Rick Santorum really is the little engine that could as he chugs along picking up points in the National Polls.

Mason Ohio, where he will speaking this evening, owns the reputation to being one of the top places to live in America according to Money Magazine. Mason came in 24th in their 2011 Best Place to Live List. Nice if you like living up north vs down where it's warmer. Perhaps, if the winters were not as harsh it would have even broken the top ten list...though that's just my perspective as Mason seems a little too cold for a Miami girl.

http://www.imaginemason.org/

You can read why here below, though most people are most curious about why the Eiffle Tower shows up in a Google image search of a small town outside Cincinnati. Hint: It's part of their King's Island Resort that is a great place to be in the middle of summer. It's a little chilly today in Mason, not bad for winter as this has been a mild winter as winters go and it's going fast.

http://www.visitkingsisland.com/

Rick Santorum's Schedule Today:

Friday, February 17:

11:15am EST: Senator Santorum will participate in the "Road to Victory" Michigan Faith & Freedom Coalition Rally in Shelby Township, Michigan.

Location:
The Palazzo Grande Banquet & Event Center
54660 Van Dyke Avenue (S of 25 Mile Road)
Shelby Township, Michigan

6:00pm EST: Senator Santorum will speak at the Warren County GOP Lincoln Day Dinner in Mason, Ohio.

Location:
Mason Manor House
7440 Mason Montgomery Road
Mason, Ohio

Mitt Romney who is still in the top dog seat in Arizona is campaigning today in Idaho where he is having a public event, as well as another fundraiser in Boise.

He will be appearing at the boxy looking building in the middle with the square windows, seriously a beautiful place to be in the Fall and why it's not added to the list of places to visit vs New England and other places I don't know...because Boise at times can be beautiful as the picture above shows.

Later in the day at 1:45 pm Romney will host a rare free rally on the road that is open to the public. Guerdon Enterprises makes modular homes.

Mitt Romney
Guerdon Enterprises
5556 S. Federal Way, Boise, Idaho

Newt raised over 2 Million dollars yesterday in L.A. Money wise it was a good day for him, while he fundraises his daughters have been out on the morning talk shows talking for him and doing a good job at that. He is speaking and fundraising back home in Georgia today. His public event, after the special donor dinner, is at 7:30 pm.

Newt Gingrich 7:30 PM
Hosting campaign rally
500 Aviation Drive, Peachtree City, Ga.

To put that amount that Newt Gingrich raised in L.A. after his fundraisers in perspective, Romney is about to unleash 2 Million Dollars in commercials to attack Rick Santorum whose budget for TV ads is about $50,000.

I'm beginning to wonder over and over if Rick Santorum is able to hold his own with his limited budget, perhaps we should let him work on the U.S. Budget.

Either way he has been pulling larger and larger crowds wherever he appears. Let's see if he can keep up the momentum after Romney unleashes his beast of $2,000,000 worth of TV ads against him.

Keep watching.. no serious weather events scheduled to interfere with any of the events set for today.

Michigan

Michigan should have a theme song, maybe there is, something like Oklahoma. All eyes move north toward Michigan this week to watch the candidates duke it out in Detroit and other cities in the economically challenged state.

The Recession hit Detroit hard, way before it hit the rest of the country. A lot of construction workers in the South Florida area during the heyday of the most recent boom were from Detroit and other towns in Michigan. For almost ten years Michigan has been fighting recession.

http://articles.businessinsider.com/2010-04-27/markets/30000249_1_michigan-economic-michigan-jobs-recession-for-six-years

http://www.mlive.com/news/index.ssf/2011/10/great_recession_leaves_michiga.html

Even if Romney was not born and raised in Michigan it would be an important bellwether state to watch. It's only a bellwether state for Romney because he was born there, it's a state to watch that has a mixed population base with multiple views unlike places like Iowa or South Carolina.

It is worthy to note that they have had their best year this year, which they often attribute to the "bail out" of the Auto Industry, something that Romney was against very publicly a few years back when he was not running for president. An Op Ed that haunts him daily.

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120214/OPINION01/202140336/Romney-op-ed-Taxpayers-should-get-GM-shares-proceeds?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE

Around Noon both candidates will be in Michigan.

Romney will be speaking to the Chamber of Commerce lunch at Farmington Hills Manor, 23666 Orchard Lake Road, Farmington Hills, Mich.

Santorum will address the Detroit Economic Club in Detroit, MI at the Cobo Center, 1 Washington Boulevard, Detroit, MI

"The mission of the Detroit Economic Club (DEC) is to provide a platform for the debate and discussion of the great business, government and social issues of the day"

Rick Santorum is speaking there today. Later in the day Santorum will be speaking at 7pm at the Suburban Collection Showplace, a really big venue in Novi, Michigan.

Senator Santorum will keynote the Oakland County, Michigan Lincoln Day Dinner in Novi, MI.

A small city worth showcasing here to remind people of the smaller towns around the edges of America in places people don't normally hear about.

http://www.cityofnovi.org/

The Candidates woke up to a dreary sort of foggy, wet day in Michigan but the weather should clear up nicely for their speeches later in the day. Hey, it's winter up north...not Coral Gables, Florida.

Romney travels to a suburb of Cleveland tonight to speak at the Cuyahoga County Lincoln Day Dinner, Landerhaven, 6111 Landerhaven Drive, Mayfield Heights, Ohio.

Ohio is part of the March 6th Super Tuesday Primary Event. It's also an important state to watch to see which way the political wind is blowing.

Newt is all over L.A. today hosting events, speaking and enjoying nicer weather than the other two candidates. The weather will be sunny today in L.A. with a forecast high temperature of 71 degrees. Nice.

Newt holds an Asian-American Leadership Forum
Thursday February 16, 2012 - 10:00-11:00 am PT
Location: Korea Times

Callista Gingrich visits Little Oaks School
Thursday February 16, 2012 - 10:00-11:30 am PT
Location: Little Oaks School

Thursday February 16, 2012 - 12:15-1:30 pm PT
Location: La Gondola Restaurant

The California primary is not until June 5th, but I'd imagine Newt is looking for money in L.A. and some good sound bites while he tries to find his base vs votes in the primary which is in June.

Keep watching...

On the Road Again . .

As the polls tighten up and many show Rick Santorum ahead of Mitt Romney the candidates are on the road and on the air waves trying to make their case for their candidacy and your vote.

Newt Gingrich in an interview on TV tried to make the case for this being like the Final Four in Basketball or a ride at Space Mountain. Great visual, ages us in ways as most kids today want to go to Universal but he does make his point. Who was up yesterday is down today and he hopes he will be up after Super Tuesday. At the moment he is racing down hoping the ride is not about to end before he can turn things around once again.

Rick Santorum may see snow on the campaign trail today in North Dakota, as he makes his way east towards Michigan where he goes head to head with Mitt Romney in a show down that is beginning to loom larger than Super Tuesday.

Wednesday, February 15:

10:00am CT: Senator Santorum will hold an energy roundtable in Tioga, ND.

Location:
Target Logistics Tioga Lodge Facility
Highway 2 West
Tioga, ND

12:30pm CT: Senator Santorum will host a town hall meeting in Tioga, ND.

Location:
Tioga Public School Gymnasium
303 North Linda Street
Tioga, ND

7:00pm CT: Senator Santorum will hold a rally in Fargo, ND.

Location:
Holiday Inn of Fargo
3803 13th Avenue South
Fargo, ND

Newt has no public appearances today on the schedule, but has a VIP Donor Reception in Atlanta on Friday. For more information:

Contact ccantrell-at-newt.org for more information.

There is a "Welcome Home Rally" for Mitt in Michigan where he will try to remind those who think he's from Massachusetts that he is indeed from Michigan, born and bred. Romeny won't be worrying on the weather, he's hoping for a warm welcome from the crowd.

http://mittromney.com/states/michigan/events/welcome-home-rally-mitt-romney

February 15, 2012 - 5:30pm - 6:30pm
Compatico 4710 44th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512

The weather should be cold, no snow but nice for February in Grand Rapids, could be a lot worse. Mitt will be wearing a suit and a smile, not a sweater vest.

Personally, I think the "spend a day with Romney on the road" reminds me too much of the musical Bye, Bye Birdie and Romney isn't Birdie and he isn't going bye, bye anytime soon. More on those thoughts another day, for now the candidates are singing "On the Road Again" out in the heartlands of America.

Polls Love Santorum on Valentines Day?

Seems Rick Santorum is getting lots of valentines in the form of donations and support for his candidacy.

Meanwhile, while the polls poll people he is in Idaho today working the crowds.

Cute town, check it out.

He will be appearing 12:00 PST

Location:
Hagadone Event Center
900 Floating Green Drive
Couer D'Alene, ID

http://coeurdalene.org/

Later this evening he will be appearing in Boise Idaho for another rally.

7:00pm MST: Senator Santorum will hold a rally for supporters in Boise, ID.

Location:
Capital High School Auditorium
8055 Goddard
Boise, ID

The home of the "Eagle Pride" will be witnessing history as they participate in this event, something much different than watching a commercial on TV. It's live, organic and no matter who wins the nomination those students and their parents will remember being part of this process.. just by their participation in it.

http://capital.school.boiseschools.org/

It should be in the upper 30s with a chance of showers tonight when the rally at the High School takes place. Bundle up and enjoy!

In Tulare, California Newt Gingrich will be appearing at the World Ag Expo. The weather will be a little warmer, in the low 50s though at the moment it's a bit hazy there in the Central San Joaquin Valley along Highway 99, 45 miles south of Fresno and 60 miles north of Bakersfield.

Visit to Tulare World Ag Expo
Tuesday February 14, 2012 - 2:30-3:30 pm PT
Location: Tulare World Ag Expo
4450 South Laspina Street
Tulare, CA 93274

http://www2.worldagexpo.com/

Note, Newt is visiting the Expo which sounds more like a photo op and an opportunity for a sound bite or two. He is also going to be having a fundraiser at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club in San Diego where the weather is in the upper 50s and beautiful. Newt will be hoping on big donations to help keep him alive in this process through Super Tuesday where he had hoped to have a good showing.

Beautiful place to enjoy some time with supporters.

One of the most beautiful places to be anytime of the year, let alone in February. Newt's hoping they bring their checkbooks with them rather than valentines.

Romney is traveling back to Michigan today, his home state for several appearances over the next few days to remind voters there he is a "home boy" and hopes to have their vote come election day. The air waves are already filled with multiple commercials in an attempt to hold back the tide that is surging in Rick Santorum's direction even in Romney's home state where he was raised.

Stay tuned... while Newt's balloon never seems to land, Romney's machine might self destruct if he does not win his "home state" of Michigan.... keep watching...

And the Beat Goes On... Candidates Out West Today

The weather will be in the 40s today with rain, sort of normal for Washington State, as Rick Santorum speaks at the Washington State Historical Museum in Tacoma.

Washington Historical Museum
1911 Pacific Avenue
Tacoma, WA

If you ever have the chance... go it's got a fantastic reputation.

http://www.wshs.org/wshm/featured-exhibits.aspx#hope

One upcoming exhibit shows what it was to live on hope in the days of the Great Depression, something many people during our days of the Great Recession will find inspiring and educational. Though times are hard for many today, times have been harder and we overcome and persevere and go on.

Rick Santorum will go on stage and speak there tonight at 7 PM. Tomorrow he will be working his way east and speaking in Idaho.

Always stay in touch with www.ricksantorum.com for updates on his schedule, as often events have been moved to a larger venue to accommodate the larger crowds he has been pulling since his days traveling through Iowa in friend's pick up truck.

Newt is in California today plugging away on the campaign trail. It won't be so sunny in Pasadena or El Monte where it will be in the 50s and overcast with rain coming and going, much like the candidates.

As for Mitt Romney, I wish they would make a site "Where in the world is Mitt Romney today" as his site never shows where he is speaking and he gets moved around like a shell game at times. I suppose the Secret Service knows...

He is listed as speaking tonight in Mesa Arizona as well as in New York at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel at a private fundraiser. Mitt knows money, he seems to have a lot of pricey fundraisers which would mean of course he has a lot of big, corporate sort of wealthy sponsors who would like to see him as the candidate. A far cry from the more populist and easy to use website of Rick Santorum. Even Newt Gingrich has an easier site to use.

Using Mitt Romney's site reminds me of trying to find something specific on The Weather Channel's site. It is, in my opinion, the worst site to use..the hardest site to use. They detail so much information that it is easier to figure out if today is a bad "sinus" day than it is to get a quick glance at the weather. They have more videos and weather news than CNN. Romney's site is a lot like that too.

Contrast and compare, if you really needed quick info on an event whose site would you prefer?

www.ricksantorum.
www.newt.org
www.mittromney.com

There is a good site on Politico, but even that seems confusing and I doubt Romney's supporters are paying their usual $2,500 to have dinner with him via hook up to Arizona...???

http://www.politico.com/2012-election/calendar/mitt-romney/

I know he has been accused of having different positions on the same issue, but there is no way he can get from Arizona back to New York at the same time unless he has figured out how to do time travel and if so I do hope he shares his secret. Now THAT would be a real money maker.

Possibly his "team" is in NY planning the March Fundraiser?

http://www.politico.com/blogs/burns-haberman/2012/02/romney-back-to-ny-for-fundraising-swing-in-march-114009.html

Either way, no matter where he is he will be speaking energetically about why he is the best candidate and Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich will be doing the same.

Either way I'll follow the weather where ever the candidates are and they should be happy they aren't in the middle section of the country today as that is where the weather is nasty, stormy and could even become severe. That system will move east tomorrow...

Romney Wins Maine - Eclipsed this morning by Whitney Houston's Death

I'm reading stories on Mitt Romney's win in Maine, however I'm lost in songs sung by Whitney Houston who died at the Beverly Hilton last night; the cause of death unknown.

Romney, beat Ron Paul by a narrow margin in Maine where Ron Paul had campaigned heavily and had hoped to "win one" however he did not. Victory must taste sweet to Mitt even if it's a small state far north near Canada that most of the candidates ceded to him earlier as it was always seen as "Romney territory" up in the NE part of the country.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks all of New England is the same. The only thing they have in common is that they root for the Red Sox and the Patriots. The different states are similar, but different. However, it's easier to just write it off as a New England victory and move on for most of the candidates. I'm sure Ron Paul, who tends to be very pragmatic, is happy to come that close in defeat as Romney did in victory.

Today politics will rule on the news shows, however most Americans will have their favorite Whitney Houston song playing in their mind today, most music lovers around the world will be hearing Whitney Houston songs as well.

Weather wise it's cold everywhere. It's sunny and cold in Florida. It's sunny and freezing in North Carolina. The best place to be this morning is under the cover sipping coffee and watching Meet the Press or Face the Nation. Just my thoughts.

Keep watching, the Republican Primary goes on and on and is most likely coming to a town near you if you live in one of the Super Tuesday States.

Today and tonight is Whitney Houston's moment in time.

ALL Candidates at CPAC in DC Today

It will be cold and gray in Washington today as all three of the main candidates for the Republican nomination for President speak today. The sun may come out later in the day and it will flirt with 50 degrees. That's pretty good, they could have easily been snowed under in any other year.

http://cpac2012.conservative.org/hoteltravel/cpac-location/

The event is being held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. 2660 Woodley Road, NW. Washington, District Of Columbia 20008.

The main speeches will be carried live today on most of the news channels as well as CSPAN.

http://www.c-span.org/

Marco Rubio warmed up the crowd yesterday. Always exciting for me to see Marco Rubio on the National stage as he grew up in my neighborhood in Miami. Good Ole Boy from West Miami. Many consider him a possible Vice Presidential Candidate for 2012, either way many consider him a probably Presidential candidate in 2016 unless another "Florida Boy" Jeb Bush steps up to the plate.

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/nakedpolitics/2012/02/marco-rubio-returns-to-cpac.html

Yesterday, Governor Rick Perry spoke saying this is half time and we need a new quarterback in America.

Today, the three candidates for that position of first string quarterback for the Republican Team will be speaking today.

The schedule for the event:

9am Mike Huckabee will be speaking at the beginning of the day's events.

10:25 Rick Santorum will be introduced by Foster Freiss.
12:55 Mitt Romney will be introduced by Al Cardenas.
4:10 Newt Gingrich will introduced by his wife Callista Gingrich.

NOTE: The President is scheduled to speak at 12:15 live today from the White House on new changes to his controversial birth control issue that has united Catholics, Orthodox Jews and other groups who do not like him interfering with private religious practices. In the past the President has often started his speeches late and given long speeches and if he does he could go head to head with Mitt Romney's scheduled speech. Sort of "odd" timing for the President who has to be aware of the schedule for CPAC.

No matter what the weather is like outside, it will be hot and exciting inside and one candidate will most likely make the strongest mark. Sound bites will be made. Sunday morning talk shows will discuss who said what...

Rick Santorum is scheduled for Meet the Press this Sunday.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032608/

Ron Paul has skipped the event, something about "scheduling problems" so his son spoke the family yesterday. Was he really too busy to speak before CPAC today or was he passing the baton to his son? He has spoken at CPAC in the past.

Enjoy the show, live on TV for all to see.

Santorum's Event Today Moved to a Bigger Venue in Oklahoma City

I'm not sure why everyone is taking the day off . . . except Rick Santorum, but that is what it seems on the surface. Then again, politics like icebergs are more below the surface than what you see on the surface.

I'm sure there are some meetings today on strategy, coaching and discussion of what to do next in the Romney campaign or maybe not. Maybe he is just spending some quality time with his family today after the big fundraising dinner in Atlanta last night. I wonder how much money was raised.

Newt is in Cincy, touring around a Wright Brother mansion that he lived in after he made the money. There's more than you ever wanted to know about his visit in this entertaining blog.

http://cincinnati.com/blogs/politics/2012/02/07/newts-in-cincy-today/

Rick Santorum is in Oklahoma City this morning it's in the 30s and rain is in the area. He was supposed to speak at the H & H Shooting Arena, but the event has been moved to the Magnuson Hotel Arena. The need for a larger venue was to accommodate the larger crowds that are expected. The fact that so many people wanted to attend today's event in Oklahoma City may be a good sign for Santorum as polls show that Newt Gingrich is a favorite in the Soooner State and he has been placing third in the polls. Possibly, the momentum from Tuesday's triple wins may have more than a few people in Oklahoma wondering what Rick Santorum is all about.

Mitt Romney is moving an event later this month to a larger venue in Michigan, because he sold out the previous facility and this location can accommodate more people.

Rick Santorum's event today is free.

Many of Romney's are not free.

Money talks in this race, so does popularity. At the end of the game it will be interesting to see who won and who had the best strategy...or who did a better job convincing people to go out and vote for them.

I would imagine that anyone who paid $2,500 for dinner last night in Atlanta (or $1,000 for the reception) will go out to vote when that day rolls around.

Interesting tweets online bring me to interesting stories.

Take for instance this tweet by Doug Rink:

Doug Rink @TalkSouthRadio Reply Retweet Favorite · Open
Romney holds Atlanta fundraiser at ritzy hotel, but does his Atlanta media interviews in front of a forklift. cbsatlanta.com/story/16739062…

http://www.cbsatlanta.com/story/16739062/romney-to-meet-supporters-in-atlanta-wednesday

You can't make this stuff up. So true though and for candidates with advisers they work out the details like this which help Mitt Romney to look more human and every day whereas it cost $2,500 to have dinner with him.

He is an every day person mind you, gets up, gets dressed, etc... but every step is being micromanaged vs Rick Santorum who goes about the country talking in intricate detail on his stops and answering questions. Romeny rarely takes questions and rarely gives long detailed answers vs often repeated sound bites. Then again, after the "poor" comment on the morning talk show maybe it's best he stick with the sound bites. Newt Gingrich has refused to be micromanaged by advisers and is doing it "his way" which may or may not work out. Ron Paul is always himself, the country doctor who has taken on the political arena...

But, in today's world where you can buy expensive advertising to affect millions in big markets, a small tweet can be seen around the world by an infinite number of people. Bloggers blog. Tweeters tweet. Some do both.

Candidates speak, though it seems publicly only one is speaking today and that is Rick Santorum. The others are speaking to someone trust me, it's just not on the radar.

I do find it a bit odd that normally the 2nd place person usually tries harder. Rick Santorum, who comes off three victories this week, is trying harder than the others who feel they are winning the race.

Is Rick Santorum being underestimated or is Rick Santorum never underestimating the value of getting out and seeing the every day people?

Over the holidays you will remember Rick Santorum is the only one who didn't take time off for the holidays. It seems to have paid off.

Rick Santorum is looking to Michigan for a win there, as Michigan often feels that Romney is their home boy it may be a harder than he thinks. Either way, I doubt that Romney will underestimate him when trying to hold onto the hearts and votes of the people of Michigan. Weather may be a factor there as it is one place in this country that winter has not taken a holiday!

Rick Santorum Rolls On, Romney Goes South, Newt Goes North

Now, Drudge might be making a joke or laughing at Santorum's Triple Crown Victory yesterday or he could be saying that Rick Santorum IS on a roll, he's rolling in like a storm surge on a crest of victory. Only Mister Matt knows for himself just what he means, but seeing Santorm on the cover of his Drudge Report says a lot either way. Santorum, who is running this race David style against the Goliath of Romney's "Machine" can use all the free publicity he can get these days.

Rick does roll on today to Texas and tomorrow Oklahoma as he continues to meet and greet people across the country while asking them for their vote and their support.

9:30am CT: Senator Santorum will host a forum with area pastors in McKinney, TX.

7:00pm CT: Senator Santorum will hold a campaign rally, with special guest radio host Mark Davis, in Plano, TX.

Newt, who is money strapped and taking advantage of being Newt is doing mostly call in appearances on various TV and radio shows today. He will be appearing in Ohio at a "closed event" for employees of Jergen Inc...no not the beauty company.

http://www.jergensinc.com/Index.aspx

It will be 32 with light snow. The primary is in March, but Newt who is concentrating on Super Tuesday and the states he hopes to win is going there today.

While Newt is up north in Ohio, Romney is heading South to Atlanta where he will appear today in Georgia at two events, one free to the public the other a fundraiser.

http://www.11alive.com/video/default.aspx?bctid=1439598302001

It will be in the high 40s, it's free, it's open to the public at Bottega Stone.
129 Armour Drive NE
Atlanta, Ga 30324
404-745-3000

http://bottegastone.com/

There is also a fundraiser at the W Hotel where the cheapest ticket to attend is $1,000. There are pricier tickets, it's a fundraiser... a Romney fundraiser proving the point that it's all about money and he's looking to replenish his bank roll that he whittled down in the nearby state of Florida.

Imagine Romney hopes the W + $1,000 a plate will translate to Winning in Georgia and giving a death blow to Newt in his home state. Time WILL tell...

Contrast that with where Santorum is speaking today, after his appearances on the morning news shows.

http://www.fairview-farms.com/2622/index.html

Bella Donna Chapel Adriatica and Fairview Farms/Corral Barn vs The W in Atlanta and a high end granite company that puts in beautiful kitchens that few people in the Heartland will ever see in their homes. Beautiful pictures on their site on kitchens and a great slogan. "Realize Your Vision"

This race is about "vision" and who has the "best vision" for America.

Meanwhile, Rick Santorum rolls on from Texas to Oklahoma to Michigan on a shoestring budget and a prayer, perseverance, patience and substance.

He'll need more than his vest in Michigan where the weather will turn colder even his the crowds are warm and friendly.

As for me, I'll be appearing at the W in Charlotte today . . . though think they call it the Westin there. What is in a name?

Either way, where ever I am, where ever you are...stay tuned...

Ps on the Glitter Bomb front the Secret Service did their job last night when they protected Mitt Romney from a Glitter Bomb, the same kind that Santorum brushed off last week without Secret Service Protection. Really Romney is good when it comes to money, he now has the government protecting him from these dangerous threats at the tax payers expense whereas Santorum just brushes off the glitter and keeps on rolling...

Santorum Sweeps ALL 3 States... Triple Play Day for Rick Santorum

Tonight's turn of events reminds me of a Storm Surge. Once it begins building it gathers steam over the expanse of the ocean and finally washes across some beach front city with the intensity of a nuclear explosion changing the landscape, wind whipped waves on a high tide that's moving fast and washing away everything in it's way.

Tonight's win in all three states by Rick Santorum is like a storm surge, like a triple play in a late night game that helps the underdog team to take the lead.

It's big. Big for Santorum. Bigger for Romney as it signals a problem. And, a bigger event possibly for Newt who now is no longer relevant. Newt may be relevant again after Super Tuesday, but tonight it's all Rick Santorum.

Rick Santorum, the little engine that could rode a wave of populist power through small towns across the Heartland.

While his win in Missouri may not provide Santorum with delegates it will provide him with huge amounts of money by people who have been sitting on the sidelines wondering if he is "for real" as a candidate. Money talks. Especially in a race where there is an imbalance in money on the side of one candidate.

Everyone loves a winner. A lot of people out there like Rick Santorum, "but" they figure Romney is about to sweep up the nomination and why bother giving $20 or $1,000 if he's an "also ran" in the 2012 Presidential election.

Politics is indeed a lot like the weather. If you don't like it today, wait until tomorrow. It's fluid like the atmosphere.

Possible news stories that could come up and grab the media attention and affect the election.

#1... Natural Disasters. They always happen somewhere whether they are weather related or geological in nature.

#2... Syria is exploding, the question of possible American involvement could change things dramatically.

#3... Iran/Israel conflict and other regional problems in the Middle East.

#4... New numbers on the economy

#5... Newt could drop out or suspend his campaign, not likely but you never know.

#6... Gas hits $4 a gallon

#7... Weather affects Super Tuesday dramatically

#8... A scandal involving one of the candidates or Obama

#9... Castro bites the Cuban dust

#10.. New Mayan revelations making the election in November barely important?

Life is fluid in the fast lane and politics is the fast lane.

The list could go on and on.

I've heard it said that the voter turn out in Colorado was light today. It may or may not have been weather related. Weather was crummy from the perspective of a Miami girl (me) but it's not so harsh or dramatic for people used to the Colorado winter.

Note the summary comes out of Goodland, KS. Weather is regional, this is the regional report.

Bottom line... Romney failed to get his base out to support him tonight.

Ron Paul's people showed up, flurries or not.

Newt's people were barely there, did Donald's non-support hurt him?

Rick Santorum's supporters showed up.

That's it.

Tomorrow he will be on the news shows. He is scheduled to be in Texas tomorrow and Oklahoma on Thursday. He has his eye on the finish line and the finish line is not in Missouri or Minnesota.

Texas votes on April 3rd.
Oklahoma has their day in the sun on Super Tuesday.

Stay tuned, this is far from over. In fact, the real battle for the Republican Nomination might just have begun this evening as Rick Santorum, who is behind in the delegate count has won the most number of States so far.

Wild night in the heartland and Colorado is in ways also the heartland.

Santorum has Twin Wins in the Heartland, From the Twin Cities to St. Charles Missouri

Listening to Louis Armstrong singing Moon River, and thinking how the full moon is shining brightly on Rick Santorum on this cool, winter night when he has so far twin wins in Missouri and Minnesota. Easy to say that the win doesn't really matter in Missouri, but I've never seen a Miss America that did not enjoy winning a beauty contest. Sort of like saying on a cold night in February it's not "that cold" because it's only 34 degrees not 19 degrees. It's all a matter of degrees that is true... but if you have to put a coat on it's winter. And, Santorum won in Missouri.

A win in Colorado would crown him as a realistic candidate vs a dreamer off to see the world, but Rick Santorum didn't go off to see the world...he has gone off to see the people who live in Minnesota and Missouri town by town and it paid off for him tonight in a double win and he is closing in on a possible win in Colorado.

Either way... the Heartland seems to love Santorum and he's smiling tonight.

In that ballroom in St. Charles Missouri tonight it feels like the 4th of July, not the middle of winter.

Now, all eyes turn towards Colorado.

And, now Mitt Romney may be thinking he needs to do the reset thing. But, can Romney do well in the South? We'll see and we'll be watching the weather where stormy weather could make a difference in that election.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/front-runner-romney-looks-to-weather-late-surge-from-underdog-santorum-ahead-of-caucuses/2012/02/07/gIQA37XfvQ_story.html

So far tonight, Romney has not weathered the surging Rick Santorum well, time will only tell where we go from here..

Besos Bobbi

Ps...the song Heartland comes to mind by Willie Nelson that tells of the people in the Heartland and those lyrics could explain Rick Santorum's twin win tonight.

There's a home place under fire tonight in the heartland
And the bankers are taking my home and my land from me
There's a big achin' hole in my chest now where my heart was
And a hole in the sky where God used to be
There's a home place under fire tonight in the heartland
There's a well where the water's so bitter nobody can drink
Ain't no way to get high and my mouth is so dry that I can't speak
Don't they know that I'm dyin' why's nobody cryin' for me
My American dream fell apart at the seams
You tell me what it means you tell me what it means
There's a home place under fire tonight in a heartland
And bankers are taking the homes and the land away
There's a young boy closin' his eyes tonight in a heartland
Who will wake up a man with some land and a loan he can't pay
His American dream fell apart at the seams
You tell me what it means you tell me what it means
My American dream...
There's a home place under fire tonight in the heartland
There's a home place under fire tonight in the heartland
There's a home place under fire tonight in the heartland
There's a home place under fire tonight in the heartland

Weather and Politics... Colorado, Minnesota & Missouri

Today's political events are all in cities where winter is in full force today. It's snowing in Denver as people go to their respective caucuses to show their support for their candidate.

Santorum has criss crossed his way across the three states appearing anywhere and everywhere trying to make his case for why he is still int the race and wants their votes. Romney has been on the ground quite a bit and continued to criss cross the air waves and the Internet making his case. Newt has run a quieter campaign in these three states seeming to wait for Super Tuesday where he should do better within his more established base. If, Newt does not do well on Super Tuesday, he should get out of the race. If he can't win the in the South, where can he win would be the question?

Santorum has events in all three states today, including the "beauty contest" in Missouri. He has given Missouri more attention than the other two and even a victory on paper would give him the perception a winner despite whether the results are binding or not.

It will be 21 and overcast in Colorado Springs where Santorum will be holding a campaign rally at Giuseppe's Depot, 10 S Sierra Madre St.,Colorado Springs, Colorado. They advertise an American (Traditional), Colorado Cuisine, Family Fare, Italian, Romantic and Vegetarian friendly menu. Hmnnn, not sure what Colorado Cuisine is (conjures up images of bison and buffalo...) but I'm sure I'll google it. If you are there you might want to order from the Baggage Cart Salad Bar..

The Depot's Baggage Cart Salad Bar
$7.50
fresh greens, vegetables, seasonal fruits, puddings, pasta salads & more. served with a cup of soup & garlic bread

Must be like North Carolina, where Macaroni and Cheese is considered a vegetable. And, I'm wondering...what kind of pudding....

If you're interested in working there, here's a link to the employment opportunities.

http://www.giuseppesdepot.com/employment.html

From there Santorum will go to Blaine, Minnesota where it will be cold and cloudy and he will end the day in holding a primary night party at the
St. Charles Convention Center in St. Charles, Missouri. Neither Newt nor Romney have campaigned much in Missouri so I suppose he is hoping for a victory there to add to his resume for the Republican nomination.

Romney doesn't seem worried...

Newt does seem worried...

Ron Paul shouldn't be worried on a nice showing in Minnesota, a state that does often vote outside the box.

Found this site online while surfing, going to listen today. Something about it pulls me in and want to listen to what they have to say. They will be covering the primary process in Colorado today on air.

http://kuow.org/program.php?id=25899

Seems Washington State cancelled there primary to save money in the budget. Wow, talk about a place determined to cut back...

http://sos.wa.gov/office/osos_news.aspx?i=zwm8zI6TS07Z8OKbW30dOw%3D%3D

Which is an interesting point...the cost of the primaries in a bad economy.

Does the money pumped in and the appearances of the next possible President in the state worth the cost of running the election? A caucus is cheaper to run than a primary, something to think on down the line though they seem to be more popular in some places in America than in others.

Stay tuned to find out who will be celebrating and who will be left out in the cold tonight.

The Race Heats Up with a Not So Kosher Caucus & Ronald Reagan's Birthday

This primary race has heaten up dramatically over the last several days, not so much weather wise, though it is pretty mild today but the race for Minnesota is heating up after a not so kosher caucus in Clark County, Nevada on Saturday which provided heated moments and a lot more negative publicity. Seems the front runner Romney is falling behind a bit in Minnesota as Rick Santorum begins to surge in the state that is demographically similar to Iowa where he won his primary back when...

Santorum is appearing in Rochester Minnesota today giving a speech on his Health care policies, policies that differ distinctly from Mitt Romney's that he has accused of being not very different from Obama.

He will travel to Colorado later in the day where it snowing and where he will continue campaigning. Some pundits claim that his hope is to squeak out a similar Iowa sort of win in Minnesota and come in 2nd in Colorado. Time will tell.

Romney is in Colorado today hoping to maintain his front runner status and build on it.

The "mountain west" seems pretty solid Romney country. Will the South deliver for Newt? That remains to be seen or if Santorum picks up steam in Minnesota and Colorado will that translate into votes in the South?

What has been a bit strange this year is the nonstop hoopla about Ronald Reagan, you would think he is alive and well this year as candidates talk about him and there are parties and cakes in several areas of the country.

It's beginning to remind me of those old jokes on Saturday Night Live in the early years, "Generalissimo Franco is still dead"....

http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2012/02/06/keepers-reagan-flame-honor-gipper-101st-birthday

Had Reagan still been alive he would have been 101.

An odd piece of news this weekend was the caucus crashers in Las Vegas where there are a lot of Orthodox Jews, as well as Seventh Day Adventists. People were supposed to sign a paper stating that they could not vote before sunset on Saturday because of "religious reasons" when a lot of Ron Paul (and some Romney people) showed up looking not exactly kosher insisting they didn't vote because they keep the Sabbath on Saturday too..... Got to tell you, it's really pretty easy to tell the difference between a Lubavitcher Chassid and a Ron Paul supporter...

Here's the Republican Patron Saint Ronald Reagan with a few Orthodox Jews AKA Chabad Rabbis

Ron Paul Supporters below... this is not rocket science... don't need the Mentalist to figure this one out...

http://www.esquire.com/blogs/politics/kosher-caucus-nevada-2012-gingrich-6651676

Of course, as Sheldon Adelson was behind the Shabbos Caucus and he is a big Gingrich supporter it was assumed it would be used to help Newt get a win in Nevada. Number one, Sheldon Adelson is not an Orthodox Jew. Number two, winning a handful of votes in Vegas would not have changed much. But, number three shows how low down some people from both Romney and Paul's teams will go to try and upset the process.

Hot as hell out there this year on the campaign trail if you ask me... even in winter it's heating up...

South Carolina avoided this problem by asking anyone who could not vote on Saturday to send in absentee ballot.

I'm not sure what the answer is but this primary process so far has brought out a lot of dishonesty and mud slinging, it will continue well past the mud season in Maine at this rate as Newt Gingrich refuses to pull out and neither does Rick Santorum. As for Ron Paul.... the race for the White House is not a game or a chance to air the platform of the Libertarian Party. Then again, Roseanne threw her hat into the ring promising us at least a comedic challenge to Ron Paul for funny sound bites.

http://www.newjerseynewsroom.com/movies/roseanne-bar-ruuning-for-green-party

There is discussion on the weather next week being colder in some parts than previously thought, waiting for the next few model runs before I believe the temperatures in NYC will go down into single digits.

The system south of Florida went east and often when you have this much of an imbalance in the weather the atmosphere does try to right itself and things flip fast so next week...winter may return to parts of the country.

Meanwhile... the beat goes on in Missouri while they try to explain they are having a non-binding election process that is not a beauty contest ... maybe they are trying to get some publicity for their state and some media attention?

Who knows... this year so far we have Donald Trump claiming Mitt Romney won in Nevada because of his endorsement. Nice... of course he won in Nevada last time without his endorsement.

And, then there's Roseanne...

You thought this process was almost over and Romney was about to be coronated?

Think again... not one political model predicts this will be wrapped up before winter is over.

GIANTS WIN! Romney Building a Storm, but Santorum Carries on Campaigning in Missouri

It was a lot harder to figure out who was going to win the Super Bowl tonight than it is to figure out who will be Romney's running mate if the trend continues.

Eli Manning and the Giants have just won the Super Bowl, weather was not a factor as it was played in doors. Great game, ending on a Hail Mary pass by the NE Patriots that did not go there way and the Giants won. So, far this week the only thing Romney has lost is that he rooted for the wrong team as New England lost. He may have lost a $10,000 bet with someone, but I think all in all he's more happy about winning the delegate count than New England losing the Super Bowl.

Romney looks so strong right now that Obama is quoting C. S. Lewis.

As Romney rolls up more and more delegates and Newt tries to get some steam going again, Rick Santorum continues to campaign in Missouri.

Missouri mind you is having a primary, sort of.... but the vote is not binding and anyone can vote in the primary. Seems confusing to me, so confusing I wish the ghost of Mark Twain could rise up and explain what the heck they are thinking. It may be a mute point, as Romney rolls on and our eyes mostly turn north towards Minnesota, the state that has already given us an Independent Governor. Not surprisingly, he has endorsed Ron Paul.

Nevada going for Romney was not a surprise, it was expected. Seems the bigger story in Nevada has been what would happen if the Giants won, it's not good for "the house" it seems...

http://www.newsy.com/videos/if-giants-win-vegas-loses/

It is supposedly good for Wall Street that the Giants won.

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/why-wall-street-is-rooting-for-the-giants-2012-01-31

Trump endorsing a winner and advertising his TV series was not a big surprise.

Winter is in evidence in Missouri, as it is 31 degrees with snow forecast for Tuesday when their primary ends. They meet again in March to do it again, so to speak.

Maine has mild weather for winter and an also complicated process that NRP tries to explain.

http://www.npr.org/2012/02/05/146424971/voting-their-own-way-maines-extra-long-caucuses

Just a note that if we were in Europe and having this political process, weather would be making headlines. Snow has paralyzed most of the major cities and people have frozen to death from the cold.

As we sit here in America, in a so mild a winter that a tropical disturbance is developing oddly in the Florida Straits... we don't appreciate how good we have it this winter.

http://www.ksbw.com/r/30382564/detail.html

Keep watching.. for now Romney is hot and Newt is not. And, Rick Santorum is still saying "so what" he's not going away into the political night just yet.

We may not know the results of the the Republican Primaries or the November election, but we know tonight that the Giants are happy with their Commander in Chief Tom Coughlin tonight! Just think, several months back some people wanted to change coaches. Perhaps, this will give Obama and Newt Gingrich something to think on...

Keep watching...and follow the development of the Tropical Disturbance at www.hurricaneharbor.blogspot.com
